Hello from across the pond! Sure has been a dry spell of true sport cars which can be called sexy or even affordable.

Boxer engines dont have high emissions, in fact with the use of direct injection thanks to the D-4S it will be pretty efficient, probably more than any previous Subaru motor.

So, in the UK, are you specifically taxed on vehicle emissions?

No. New vehicles are taxed based on emissions. So anything half decent (350z RX8) or big 4x4s etc are £400 ($670) a year road tax.
Old system was you paid the higher tax for engines above 1.6 litres (about 100cu inches) which is about £190 ($320) a year or about £110 ($185) for smaller engined (below 100cu inches) cars. This changed to the system above in 2002.

So, if you have a car on the old system a 1.6 litre pays the same as a 5.0 litre (305 cu inches) per year.

And anything built before 1973 is tax exempt. It used to be anything that reached 25 years old stopped paying tax (you'd get it for free) but the government put a stop to that.

On top of that yes, we do pay tax on petrol (gas) at about 80% but this isn't shown anywhere.

Last time i filled up it was at 109p / litre or $1.83 / litre which works out at $4.96 / gallon (imperial) or $4.13 per gallon (us).

So a 40 litre (8.8 gallon or 10.6 gallon us) tank costs £43.60 ($73.23) to fill.

How does it work where you guys are?

Ouch.

Well in the states it's different for each state. Here in Wisconsin it's about $80 to register a car for a year. Gas is about $2.60 here.

Vehicle registration varies from state-to-state. Here in Colorado it is based on age and value of the vehicle and it's almost considered a "property tax". When I registered my new 2009 BMW, I paid almost $900 , next year it'll probably be about $750, with it decreasing every year after that.

As regards to fuel, there is a Federal Gasoline Tax (18.4 cents) that is supposed to go towards road maintenance and new projects, plus each state levies their own tax rate, Colorado's is 22 cents. So with regular gasoline right now at $2.49/gallon - 40 cents is just taxes.

Hi all,

I'm originally from Sunderland in the UK but I'm stationed in Elmpt on the Dutch/German border so need this car to go into production so I can use it on the Nurburgring.

Just checking in to find the latest information on what I hope will become a beast of a car. Currently got the Focus ST thats pushing out 270BHP and only reason I dont have a Subaru now is they changed it to that Hatchback which definately isnt to my tastes.

All I want now is expected production dates and which engines are going to be available, I dont understand whats taking them so long really.

I hope to speak to you all in the near future.

Welcome! You will definitely have to hit up the Nurburgring, that's on my bucket list.

The recent WRX Hatch is pretty sexy IMO, however I was amazed when I found out it weighed about 3200lbs+. That just seemed high for its size...

I dont really get the delay either, I want to hear from Subaru.
