Suspension

I'm wondering what the plan is for suspension on this car. Has anyone seen any information about it yet? Will it have a strut front and multi-link in the rear like a current Impreza or Legacy or will it be something different?

I would like to see double wishbone all the way around personally but we can have our cake and eat it to can we?

I'm pretty sure Toyota/Suby hasn't said anything at this yet. I could be wrong.

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong. Well this seems to still be speculation but it is info.

Apart from testing the engine and gearbox combination, Toyota engineers will be focusing on getting the suspension settings just right, especially given the fact that the 4WD Legacy's strut and double-wishbone setup has had to be heavily modified to cater to the new coupe's rear-drive bias.

The suspension will be front strut with rear double wishbones.

I wonder how much improvement is possible to be found in the car once it gets into the hands of the aftermarket, before you have to consider fitting remote canister dampers?

In a car in this price range I would expect quot a bit can be improved. Not until you're talking ZR1 (Magnetic Selective Ride Control) or GTR would I think it would be harder to improve upon the stock components.

Exactly. Manufacturers know when you buy a 80k+ car you want it to be as best as it can be from the factory and the price shows this aspect (gtr vspec 50k brakes). This car can't have the best of the best and still be in the 25k range. Plus it's being built with drifting in mind which is known for immense aftermarket.

This is the only reason I am thankful for drifters. Their silliness will support an aftermarket that I can enjoy.

As for chassis... I am fine with strut and double wishbones but wonder how much adjustment will be available. Can't wait until someone can get ahold of the car and do some measurements to see just exactly what we are dealing with in so far as roll centers and such go.

What suspension do yall prefer? I mean like what brand coils/sway bars, mulit link suspension do you like and why. How would your FR-S or 216A be different from your current car?

I have little expereince with any of that so I can't say honestly what i will run just yet. I plan to go with stance coils spl multi link suspension, suspension technique sway bars, greddy strut bar.

There are going to be so many options available when this car is released so we shall see some badass options. I cant really pinpoint a single brand but my coil setup wont be these cheap knock off brands.

In the past I had HKS coilovers and SPL Parts coilovers for my 240's. I liked both, but preferred the SPL's for their inverted front struts. I don't like insane spring rates, but rather a typical 8/6 setup.

Ill be decking out my FT86/FRS with suspension, so I cant wait to see what is available. I wish I still had my s14 since the suspension options in the past few years have multiplied.

I want the ability to take the 216a drop it as low as is feasibly, put some
18/19's on it and have it stay flat in the corners. Much like my 240 suspension will defintely come before power. With the Fr-S coming out before the 216a will probably have a lot more options when it hits showroom floor than most cars do.

West how is the ride with an 8/6 spring setup. Suspenion stuff for 240's can be dizzying with all the options. What brands are you partial to other than SPL?

I live in mostly flat land. I could probably get track coils and be fine, but I'm not. I am looking for that bridge between street and track.

I'm not touching suspension until I track the hell out mine in stock form and get a good feeling for the car. I'm sure with this being a new car it will take me awhile to get the unwillingness to modify a mint car out if my head.

This is where an excllent forum such as ours, will really pay off. We will all end up with various different aftermarket suspension bits on our cars, due to money and what is available in our local markets, and here we can share our experiences, for the common good and betterment of our collective worldwide knowledge...

I just like the sound of the inverted front dampers; and if I recall right, the Legacy spec B ran Bilsteins. Nice, but costly in the aftermarket.

Let's see whether the stock ride, and ride height are any good. That will drive the decisions on springs or coilovers.

Personally, I like a bit of compliance, to keep the wheels in contact with the road, and since the engine/transmission is mounted nice and low, I'm not expecting a lot of roll and the need for massive ARB's (sway bars to you).

I just automatically presume I will need to lower it about 2 inches maybe more but that's probably the zilvian in me.
