240sx revival rumors

I know there's a few 240 fans on here. Here's a recent rumor regarding the return to RWD affordable fun from Nissan.

HOLY CRAP! This is the first sign of anything 240 related in a loooong time!

Yes, again: Nissan rumored to be reviving 240SX, bringing it to the U.S. — Autoblog

Yes, again: Nissan rumored to be reviving 240SX, bringing it to the U.S.

Quote:
Nissan's plans to revive the 240SX (Silvia in JDM parlance) has almost become a running joke, right up there with the fake moon landing and Tom Cruise's heterosexuality. But still, this old chestnut carries forth, with a new report from Insideline's editor in Japan who says the coupe's revival is due to hit the market sometime in 2011 or 2012.

Details, per usual, are both scarce and obvious. The next-generation Silvia will supposedly be built atop Nissan's popular FM platform (370Z, Infiniti G, etc.), come in a 2+2 seating configuration and tip the scales around 2,800 pounds. Naturally, as the S15's successor, it will be a front-engine, rear-drive setup, and is rumored to be packing a turbocharged 1.8-liter inline-four putting out around 200 horsepower. A naturally aspirated variant will also be available to keep the cost of entry low, but the turbo'd model is obviously the pick of the litter and should deliver a 0-60 time of between six and seven seconds.

IL's man in Japan points to the Nissan Foria concept (shown above) as the stylistic inspiration, but notes that the coupe would only be "loosely based" on the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show concept. Judging by Nissan's recent design endeavors, we doubt the Foria -- or as previously rumored, the Urge concept -- will be a heavy influence on this supposed Silvia revival.

Although we're all for more budget-oriented FR sports cars, the popularity of the Toyota FT-86 is sure to be a factor in Nissan's decision to bring the 240SX back to life. That, coupled with the unknown demand for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe (Hyundai doesn't break out Genesis Sedan from Coupe sales in its monthly reports) makes the proposition of a new 2+2 from Nissan even more hazy. So until we hear something solid from Ghosn and Company, we'll resume our normal respiration routine.
AGAIN, thought this is still just a RUMOR. This is NOT info from Nissan.

Yeah hopefully, that's pretty ugly... espescially the color.
And I think it looks like... a Ford version of the Chevy Volt, if you made thep lastic grille chrome... maybe? lol
i think it'd be nice to see it come out though, i love 240s

Yeah the Floria design will never see the light of day. The biggest reason I can say that with confidence is that it doesn't look like anything Nissan is making right now...and right now Nissan's designs have been spot on. (GTR, 370Z)

Sorry I wasn't clear, my bad...
That Foria an S16 is a sad thing to see as Silvia. And not even close what all Silvia style generations. But again it's all rumor as Exitspeed stated. Here are the article that I saved from five years ago, but I don't know if this still exists.

I still would take S15 by any means.

If they did make it, it wouldn't look anything like that. It doesn't go with Nissan's current styling. To get cues of how it might look, look at how they did the GTR and the 370z, see the similarities between the two, and then try to apply it to an FM platform.

I know what you mean hehe, but that GTR is kind bulky and big booty. lol!! As for s16, I have no clue until it comes out.

That pic brings back so many memories. Yeah won't look anything like that. That rendering is a G35 (look at the rear quarter of the car) with a Renault styled front end. Nissan has moved on with a more specific corporate language since then.

I did this quick rendering using the headlight style and the grill that Nissan is going forward with.

Essence Concept

I can see how they could take cues from this design to design a new SX. Shrink the car a little big, smaller wheels. An aggressive look without the boomerang headlights....hmmm.

They took a little while to grow on me, but I think they look great on the Maxima and 370Z. In Exitspeed's concept up there it looks pretty good as well. I think I prefer a slight boomerang instead of a full on like the Maxima.

Yeah. I love that concept. It's LOOKS like a RWD car too me. A long, beautiful hood and a short rear. Perfect proportions for me. Makes me drool.

BTW, next I'm gonna give a Supra concept a shot.

The LFA is the LFA. If Toyota does do a new Supra I don't see them using much from the LFA at all styling wise or technology wise. It's just too expensive. I'm not sure at this point if a new Supra would be more of a competitor to the 370z or the GTR. Since there has been virtually no rumors from Toyota about the car it's anyone's guess at this point.

No, I'd look at the FT86 actually for more inspiration for a Supra concept.

I was hoping the same thing FT86 inspiration for Supra hehe...

LFA is not what i think of for my idea...

Our supras isn't any of the competition at the moment. Unless it's a open class level. If competition it would be LFA (claim to be Supra)VS GTR(claim to skyline) as Japan version, if LFA and GTR teaming up against US or Euro, that will be great chellenge to watch.

Maybe Toyota could partner with Nissan too?

TOYOBARUSSAN!!??!

Im just hoping everyone doesn't flood this market and have crappy sales then scrap the development. Nissan OK, Toyota, OK, Subaru OK, Hyundai OK (only because you listen to the market). No more please. err wait, that's flooded.

I think there's room for Nissan, Toyota, Hyundai, and Mazda.

Subaru's sounds more more like it's gonna be a more expensive AWD coupe so it really won't be competing with these sub $20k cars.

There's also BMW on the higher end of things with the 1 Series.

I'd also be all for Nissan having a higher end version of the SX as an Infiniti to more closely compete with the BMW.

The BMW 1 series are heavy as shit, I love them but wouldn't buy one due to price point, service, and weight.
