The engines 04/05 had forged pistons but Subaru phase them out due to engine noise and other factors. They went with cast pistons (not sure about the 06)...and all the trouble came with the ringlands! I believe there is a chance they had redesigned the ringlands differently for the current year, but I don't know and can't confirm. Well, I have forged pistons so I'm relieved.
